Peer Advisors are students who participated in the LEAP experience so successfully as first Each LEAP section has a Peer Advisor, and they are in the class every day, along with the students. They can answer students’ questions about class content as well as questions about how to navigate the University. To prepare for their responsibilities, Peer Advisors take an online summer class and participate in a two-day workshop just before classes begin. They meet as a cohort twice a month for the school year, and take on a committee assignment to help the LEAP program. They can get credit for this experience by enrolling in LEAP 2002. They can also sign up for LEAP 2003, which is a service learning add-on. Peer Advisors are the leaders of the LEAP program, and being able to include the position on a resume is a plus. Peer Advisors often go on to other leadership and service positions on campus. Applications are available in March.
MISSION STATEMENT LEAP PEER ADVISORS 2009-2010
Our mission as Peer Advisors in the LEAP program is to encourage the personal and academic growth of our students by providing a standard of excellence in the way we project and carry ourselves. We will embrace diversity and challenges for the purpose of expanding the experience and ability of ourselves and our students. Through our acceptance of new and diverse atmospheres, we will give our students the necessary tools to be creative and comfortable learning at a university full of valuable resources and opportunities. We will recognize our influence and limitations as Peer Advisors and encourage others to approach challenges with their own creativity and optimism. We will foster a safe and open community founded upon the attitudes of mutual respect, kindness and honesty. In doing so, individuals will build strong relationships that will provide for a vital and firm community in the future. |
