Brenda Robles, former Peer Advisor, was named "Young Alumni Association Outstanding Senior" at the humanities convocation at graduation. 

Kathryn Lindquist, current member of the LEAP Community Board, was honored as a "distinguished alumna" of the College of Humanities.

Congratulations to Nicole Nguyen, graduating Health Sciences LEAP student, on being named the Utah Young Humanitarian of the Year for 2008.  With the award comes a $5000 scholarship for graduate school, where Nicole will study pharmacy.

Erica Rojas was awarded the Latin American Studies Program Scholarship. Congratulations!

Two of the four winners of the inaugural Exemplary Instruction in Writing Awards went to members of the LEAP Writing 2010 faculty!  Congratulations to Nancy Jensen, LEAP Writing Program Coordinator, and to Nona Brown.

Shukaria Rajabali won the 2008 E-LEAP award.

Congratulations to the winner of the 2008 LEAP Multi-Year Program Scholarship, Heidi Chamarro, and to the winners of the 2008 Bamberger and Francis Scholarships: Nick Gallegos, Andrea Garcia, Cynthia Pettigrew, Amie Richards, Simon Rodriquez.

Cameron Fredrickson and Jonathan  Bowen, both former LEAP students, have received Kennecott Scholarships.

Suneil Bhambri has been named a Presidential Intern.

Angee Doan, former LEAP student and ALLY, has also been selected to be a Presidential Intern.

Of the 24 students inducted this spring into the prestigious Beehive Honor Society, more than one fifth had connections with LEAP as students or Peer Advisors.  LEAP congratulates Natasha Aguayo, Danielle Kauerz, Nicole Nguyen, Giang Tran, and Elyse Woodbury.  Another LEAP alum, Brent Schmidt, won a Beehive Scholarship.

Congratulations also go to Health Sciences LEAP student Tuyet Nguyen who was just awarded a Kennecott Scholarship.

In other LEAP news, Katie Valentine has been named ALLY Supervisor for next year, Jake Zimmerli will be our new Senior Peer Advisor, and Emily Paxton, Rachel Turner, and Trevor Wright have all been hired to assist LEAP with summer orientation and new student registration.  Welcome aboard to all.

LEAP congratulates the three winners of Peer Advisor Scholarships for next year – Jessica Behl, Suzanne Schmidt, and Carla Suarez – and congratulates Suzanne again for winning the Frost Award for the year’s Outstanding Peer Advisor. 

The ASUU Government Relations Director, Marko Mijic, who is a former LEAP student and Peer advisor, led a successful student effort to obtain state-wide tax-exemption on textbooks for institutions of higher education. Congratulations Marko!

Maggie Hortin and Marko Mijic, former Peer Advisors, and Suzanne Schmidt, a current Peer Advisor, have all been awarded summer internships in Washington D.C. by the Hinckley Institute.

LEAP professor Kris Koford has been elected chair of the Board of Directors of Crossroads Urban Center.

LEAP student Anne Bruckner recently qualified for the American Junior World Speed Skating Team, and will be travelling to China and Japan to compete.

Carolyn Bliss, director of the LEAP program, was named as one of 5 semifinalists for the Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate Award. This is a national competition. Congratulations Carolyn!

Health Sciences LEAP student Kim Nguyen has had a presentation accepted for the Conference on Undergraduate Research at UVSC (soon to be UVU) on February 29.

Health Sciences LEAP student Carla Suarez has won the Williams Award for an Outstanding Health Sciences LEAP student.

Health Science LEAP student Christy Ma has been awarded a College of Health Scholarship.  Congratulations, Christy!

Two Health Sciences LEAP students, Shontol Torres Burkhalter and Deisy Ramirez Aguilar, have been selected to present their research poster during the Research Posters on the Hill 2008 event, January 24, held in the Utah State Capitol Rotunda.

LEAP Faculty member Kris Koford has been named Volunteer of the Year at Crossroads Urban Center.

Shontol Torres Burkhalter and Daisy Ramirez Aguilar, former LEAP Peer Advisors, were awarded Assistantships through the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program.

Brenda Robles, a former Peer Advisor, won the 2007 Vicente Villanueva Meyer Memorial Award.

Three former Peer Advisors are now involved in Student Government. Marko Mijic is head of Government Relations for ASUU; Jen Buhler and Elyse Woodbury are ASUU Assembly members.

Nicole Nguyen, Health Science LEAP student and former Peer Advisor, was elected President of the U's Senior Class.

Natasha Aguayo, a former Peer Advisor, is serving as a Presidential Intern and has just been appointed Supervisor of the new LEAP ALLY Program.
