Engineering LEAP (ELEAP)

ELEAP is a two-semester sequence of courses focusing on the ethical standards of engineers in national and global settings (Fall semester) and community building in the United States and the contributions of engineers to this process (Spring semester).

ELEAP is open to any first-year student planning to major in Engineering. No application is required; simply register for the course online at Orientation.

ELEAP offers first-year engineering students many distinct advantages:

These courses allow you to stay with the same professor and classmates for the entire year, offering outstanding networking opportunities in the College of Engineering.

The two courses together fulfill three graduation requirements: two General Education requirements (Social and Behavioral Science and Humanities) as well as the Diversity requirement.

The courses offer many opportunities to learn how to work in teams through team building exercises and practice in class.

You will learn how to conduct research and present that research in both formal and informal presentations.

You can enroll in linked Writing 2010 classes, which are reserved for engineering students only.

You earn credit towards your honors certification or your honors engineering degree if you have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and if you have completed both ELEAP courses

You receive help and guidance from your Peer Advisor—a second year student who completed the both classes. The Peer Advisor is there to help you succeed on your class assignments, and to help you get connected to the life of the broader campus.
